Baltimore City Circuit Court

The Baltimore City Circuit Court is a state-level trial court of general jurisdiction, which is the only court that conducts jury trials in Baltimore City. There are four Divisions in the Circuit Court: the Family Division, the Juvenile Division, the Civil Division, and the Criminal Division. Generally, the Circuit Court deals with major civil matters and more serious criminal cases, including juvenile and other family law cases like child support, custody, divorce, and domestic violence. Most cases appealed from the District Court, the Orphan’s Court, and certain administrative bodies are also heard by the Circuit Court. Both the jury and the judge alone have the power to decide the cases.
